Who Was Your Kiwanis
Sponsor?
Can you name the winner of the Nobel
Peace Prize last year? Who was the most valuable player in
Super Bowl XLII? Who asked you to join your Kiwanis Club?
The reason the last question is easier to answer is simply because
that person made a difference in your life.
If I could meet your Kiwanis sponsor,
I'd proudly shake their hand in gratitude. As a Kiwanian, when
you help a child, it's almost as if your sponsor were involved.
It's a legacy of service.
Strengthening your club's membership builds that legacy of Kiwanis
service. During 2009-10, I'm asking you to help your club
achieve its potential for service by achieving its potential for
membership strength. Your club can achieve its potential by
coordinating four membership efforts during the year:
October: Walk the Talk - All Kiwanis Leaders sponsor at
least one new member. It's not too late to generate the
momentum for this effort right now!
January: Stay Flexible by taking advantage of the new
flexible membership initiatives like satellite clubs and corporate
membership.
May: Kiwanis Membership Month - Work with your club
to plan now for a full-scale effort.
September: Keep it in the Kiwanis Family
by asking family and faculty of your sponsored clubs to join your
club.
As a leader in Kiwanis, October is the time to set the pace for an
entire year of membership growth. Please check out the details
for each of these club membership initiatives on the Kiwanis website
at: www.kiwanisone.org/reveal and plan now
to grow for service.
The greatest gift of gratitude to your Kiwanis sponsor is to return
the favor and sponsor another new Kiwanian into your club.
Let's use the concepts in the "Reveal" initiative to build
that legacy of Kiwanis service. Thanks for making time to make
a difference.

District
Membership and K Family Friends,
Welcome
to the first Rocky Mountain District electronic newsletter for
the 2009-2010 administrative year. We are working very
hard to update the emails in our district data base so virtually
everyone will be able to receive the district news electronically. Our
goal is to have smaller, more frequent newletters
with international, district, division and club
news. We hope you enjoy this new
format. Suggestions and articles are always welcome at rmdkiwanis@comcast.net.

Let me start by saying that I am so excited about the
future of the Rocky Mountain District of Kiwanis! I
anticipate that we will have a year of growth and a year of
unparalleled service to our communities. You, the members of
the Rocky Mountain District, have a board of directors that is
focused on commitment, not complacency! We have already had a
successful board meeting via tele-conference and are putting
procedures in place to maximize our service to you. Your
Lieutenant Governors are dedicated to helping your clubs succeed
and grow through service. This October 1, we are on the
starting line...and as Jerry Traylor, our inter-club luncheon
speaker at District Convention told us; "We will fall down,
but we don't care - We will get up and strive for excellence"!
I look forward to running this race with all of you! I can't
wait to meet and celebrate Kiwanis with each of you as I travel the
District and visit your divisions. Thank you for allowing me
the opportunity to serve as your Governor. Our Kiwanis best
is yet to come!

Here we are at the
beginning of October and new Kiwanis year is upon us. I hope you
are as thrilled as I am to be working with Governor Kelly and her
team of dedicated Kiwanians.
Before we get too far into
the year we need to look at our individual clubs and ask: Do we
make a difference in not only our communities, but also in the
life's of our members.
It is ok to bring the
"F" word into Kiwanis, "FUN". All
Kiwanians love to make a difference, but they also love to have Fun
doing it. Fun and meaningful events will not only boost morale, but
will also boost membership.
Congratulations on being
elected to your club leadership. It is your opportunity to make a
difference in you clubs. I hope you will find by the end of this
year, why most Kiwanians say that being President was their most
"FUN" experience ever in Kiwanis.

Bascom Allen, International Trustee
By this time, the 2009-10
administrative year is in full swing. Governor Kelly spent
last year planning, building relationships and training her
team. Now it is time to lead. The Lt. Governors have
completed their installation of club officers and the Presidents
have communicated the club, division and district goals to the
members. Fellow Kiwanians, you are off and running the race to
grow Kiwanis in the great Rocky Mountain District.
Give your very best as you embark on this journey. You must
give it everything you've got from the very beginning. In the
work we do, we don't get second chances. I cannot guarantee
success, but I know your district will be successful because of
your great passion to serve.
Right now we must grow for service. President Paul Palazzolo
said in his speech at the International Convention in Nashville,
"When we grow to have more eyes to see needs and hands to get
things done, we can provide more service." He mentioned
three ways to accomplish the task.
The first way to grow for service -
we must build and then mentor new Kiwanis clubs around the world.
The second way to grow for service - we must lift every club to the
best possible Kiwanis membership experience. Thirdly, we must grow
for service by fulfilling our responsibilities of sponsorship to
our Kiwanis Family Clubs.
Kiwanians, I still believe that you can never go wrong if you take
John Wesley's advice (I gave you the same words when I spoke to you
in Gering): "Do all the good you can, by all the means you
can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can."
On a personal note, your convention was magnificent! Your
warm friendliness and hospitality was wonderful! Keep in mind
that I am always available; I am one phone call or one email
away. My phone number is (662) 323-5154 and my email is ballen5154@aol.com.
Let's all stand shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand to make the
world a better place for children and those less fortunate than we
are.
